The ABCs of the PRC – our policies in alphabetical order….

Please read the following carefully.

If you have any questions, please contact the PRC Director of Operations by telephone during business hours at (516) 767-3808 or by email at [email protected]

Allergies

The PRC is a nut-free zone.  Please do not bring nor send in any products with peanuts or tree nuts in packed lunches or for snacks.

Help us keep our children with allergies safe!

Communications

Email is the primary communication method for the PRC.  In addition the PRC also posts updates on Facebook and Twitter.

PRC class cancellations, program changes, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities will be communicated via timely emails.

Please make sure the PRC office has your current email address and that emails from [email protected] do not go to your spam folder.

To our working parents, please be sure to communicate all changes to our PRC schedule to your child’s caregiver. We welcome your caregiver to join our newsletter list to receive timely updates that may affect your child.

Cooperative = Volunteering

The PRC is a Non-Profit Cooperative Center that requires members to fulfill a minimum of (2) volunteer credits per year.

Volunteering is designed to be flexible based on your availability and child care needs. In many cases you can work from home and/or bring your children with you.  In addition, member participation is a great way to meet other new friends,  spend time with old ones and share your unique skills and talents and make a difference in your community.

Donation Days

The PRC is happy to help you pass on your gently loved children’s items which are donated to our extremely grateful Outreach families.  At the PRC, we take donations brought to our Main Office during business hours on the first Monday and Tuesday of every month only.  Unfortunately, we do not have an ample amount of storage to take donations throughout the month.

When you donate, please use the rule of thumb – “Would I give this to my niece or nephew?”  This means:

  • Is the item clean and free of obvious stains?
  • Does the item have all the parts needed to use/enjoy the item – including books having all of their pages?
  • Should I wrap loose parts to make this item functional?
  • Most importantly – will this item care for and/or bring joy to the child that receives it?

With those questions in mind, your subsequent cooperation with carefully grouping and packaging your items in advance of you giving us your donations is greatly needed and appreciated.

Dress Code (we are a “shoe-free” center!)

We love to see our PRC students come to our classes ready to run, jump, play and – at times – get messy!  So please, save your best outfits for family gatherings and parties but when you come to the PRC, “dress for an active mess”!

In addition to dressing yourself and your child in a manner appropriate for indoor and outdoor play (weather permitting), we ask that you remove shoes when entering our PRC classrooms.  We request that you place all shoes, boots and sandals in the cubbies located in our hallway, as well as coats and accessories.  In our classrooms, we require socks or foot coverings – bare feet are not allowed.

If you find that you have come to the PRC without your own socks on – nor your child – we do have socks for sale in our Main Office for $1.00 per pair.

This policy is for the health of our littlest PRC friends – our crawling kids – who love to explore every inch of our beautiful classrooms, top to bottom!  Admittance to our classrooms will not be permitted without adherence to this policy.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Financial Assistance

The PRC has a scholarship policy to ensure that all members of our community can participate in PRC classes and programs. Please call our Director of Operations at (516) 767-3808 for assistance.  All inquiries will be kept confidential.

In Lieu of Payment

PRC members are required to fulfill a minimum of (2) volunteer credits. If you are unable to volunteer for the PRC, you can pay a one time opt-out payment which will be charged to you in addition to your membership fee and class fees.

 Lost and Found

We know how hard it is to keep track of your and your child’s things when you visit our busy classrooms at the PRC.  When we find items that someone has obviously lost, we will put them aside and keep them in a bin labelled “Lost and Found”. This bin is located on our white bookshelves in our Water Room/Parent Lounge.

Lost and Found items will be kept – but only until the end of the month. You are always welcome to come to the PRC and look through the Lost and Found to retrieve items that may have been left behind when you came to our center.

Unfortunately, since our ability to store items is small, we will clear out our Lost and Found bins at the end of every month and any items that have not found their way back home will be donated to charity.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Membership Options

We have many Membership options available:

  • Annual Membership – $100 : All of the exclusive benefits of membership from January 1st to December 31st.
  • Sustaining Membership – $75:  You will receive discounts for Parent University and Birthday Party room rental(s) only. There is no volunteer requirement.

Non-Participation Fee

If you have not fulfilled your yearly PRC Volunteer requirement – and did not pay a one time opt-out payment in lieu of volunteering at the time of registration – you will be billed at the end of the PRC Membership year.

Payments can be made with cash or by credit card (Visa and Mastercard only).

Parking

The parking lot at the Landmark Building is reserved for Staff and Residents only. There are two options for street parking when you attend PRC classes and events:

  • Metered parking – Main Street, $.25 per hour (bring quarters), 2 hour limit.
  • Free parking – on Webster Avenue which is located directly behind the Landmark Building. There is a ramp for strollers/disabled access on the rear side of the building which leads to our front entrance.

Please be aware that the Landmark building reserves the right to tow your car if you park in areas designated for Landmark use only. In addition, parking is not permitted in the Port Washington Public Library lot if you are coming to the PRC.

Personal Property

The PRC is a safe and friendly place with our personnel always available to help you and your family during business hours.  After you have removed any outdoor clothing that you may have worn to our center and possibly parked a stroller in our “Stroller Parking” zone in our hallway, we ask that you use proper precaution with your items of value.  You are welcome to bring purses, wallets and cell phones (on silent) into our classrooms if you prefer to keep them with you, as we recommend. But since our hallways see many visitors that come to the PRC on a daily basis, as well as countless others who visit the other organizations that share our building, we cannot guarantee that your items of value are safe from theft.  T0 this, we do not take responsibility for items lost when you join us at the PRC.  Please use proper precautions to safeguard your things and those of your child.

Pick Up Authorization

If your child is in a Drop-Off class and is going to be picked up by anyone other than his or her parent or usual caregiver, you must inform the teacher of the class at the time of drop off, indicating the new pick arrangements.  You may also call the PRC Main Office and let us know about your arrangment in advance.  For the safety of your children, we will not release your child to anyone – even another parent in the sane class – without your express authorization.

Refer–a–Friend

Refer a friend to the PRC and you will receive PRC credit when that individual joins! PRC Credits can be used towards classes, children’s events, and childcare. Please call our Main Office for details.

Refunds/Credits

Class fees are non-refundable after the 3rd week of class. There are no refunds for missed classes.

Refunds may be offered if:

  •  A request is made for a refund before attending the first class in the scheduled semester.
  • The PRC cancels a class due to insufficient registration and there are no other acceptable substitutions.
  • The teacher determines that the class is inappropriate for your child.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing and must include: the child’s name; the adult’s name; the details of the program being cancelled (day and time); and the reason for the cancellation.

Registration

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Payments can be made in person in our Main Office during business hours with cash, by check or with a credit card (Mastercard and Visa only).  Credit card payments can also be made with a staff member over the telephone during our business hours.  You can also take advantage of online registration.

When paying by check, they should be made payable to the “Parent Resource Center”.  Your cancelled check will be your receipt.  Please note that if your check is returned for payment, you will be responsible to pay bank fees charged against the PRC in addition to your payment.

Sibling Policy/Multi-Class Registration Policy

If you are registering for multiple classes or  are registering multiple children from the same family, the PRC will give the registrant a discount off of subsequent PRC classes for more than one child in your family or after the first class that your child is registered to attend. Discounts will not be adminstered until at least the first class is paid in full. Please call our Main Office if you have any questions.

 Sick Policy

To ensure a safe and healthy environment for your children and our staff, please do not bring your child to class if he/she has any of the following symptoms within the past 24 hours:

  • Vomiting
  • Fever (i.e. a temperature of 100 degrees or above)
  • Diarrhea
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Runny nose along with discharge in and around the eye(s).

Your cooperation is appreciated!

Teacher Absences

In the event of a teacher absence, we will make every effort to arrange for a substitute teacher to run your child’s class.  If we are unable to find a substitute for your child’s class and the class must be cancelled, we will add a makeup class for all registered students already in the class at the end of the current semester.

Weather Advisories and Cancellations

There will be no outdoor play on days when there is a weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service. This includes all days when there is either severe heat or severe cold.

The PRC follows the same weather policy as the Port Washington Union Free School District. If Port Washington schools are closed, delayed or close early due to weather, the PRC follows the same policy.  For more information , consult the website for Port Washington Union Free School District directly.  In addition, check local radio and television news broadcasts about Port Washington schools.
